Africa is one of the most diverse areas on Earth. Covering 20% of its landmass, it's the second largest continent and home to nearly 1.5 billion people (about 17% of the planet's entire population) and an area where, in its 54 countries, over 2000 languages are spoken. From the mainly Arabic north with its ancient trade across the Mediterranean area of currently 22 countries, the continent is divided by the mighty Sahara desert below which is known as Sub-Saharan Africa which is probably more symbolic of the Africa we often think of. From mighty rivers such as the Nile, Congo and Zambezi and beautiful tropical islands, the continent is also home to the Pyramids of Egypt and ancient empires and cultures.
